The design office is the strategic location for the creation of skis.
This is where it all starts, with a sketch, a drawing or a sample. It is the place where we move from an idea to its implementation.
It is the role of the engineer to devise a concept, design, set dimensions and assess all ideas, including the most outlandish ones. We do not set limits for creativity.
Only the most tried and tested projects will leave the design office to join the MARCEL LIVET product range.
Wooden boards must be dried for a very long time. It is an essential parameter for obtaining the best mechanical properties of wood. But you have to be patient for that to happen.
The wood grain tells the life story of a tree in its environment. Selection of the best wood grains is an essential criteria to high aesthetic and technical requirements of MARCEL LIVET top-of-the-range skis.
In order to achieve a high degree of sturdiness and resistance to deformation, wood grain must be as regular and consistent as possible. These grains are the rarest and the most coveted. Sometimes, we have to go through several tree sections to select the best boards for our skis.
All of our skis are made in our French workshops. From designing to finishing, all the stages of manufacturing a MARCEL LIVET ski are carried out by French craftsmen. That, in itself, is a guarantee that our skis are 100% French made.
The marquetry that covers our skis is made in France. After being cut with a laser, they are then assembled and sanded by hand to ensure a perfect finish.
The core shaping is being done in France. Made from strips of ash wood, they are transformed after being cut, shaped and then moulded in our workshops, giving them their final form.
Our MARCEL LIVET medals in bronze or silver are cast at a French art foundry. They reflect the know-how and quality of a meticulous design.
Using top-of-the-shelf materials is an absolute requirement at Marcel Livet. Each board is carefully selected from a selection of high quality woods.
Witnesses to the passing of time, the selected trees have withstood the harsh winters for several generations. The wood boards are cut and sorted at a traditional sawmill. The small volumes of wood processed by the sawmill allow us to find the best wood boards. Before being sold, wood has time to dry for several years and this is what makes it so rich.
Drying time is an essential parameter to obtain the best mechanical properties of the wood, and it is uncompressible. But to achieve this, you must be patient. The grain of the wood tells the story of the tree's life in its environment. The selection of the best wood grain is an indispensable criterion to satisfy the aesthetic and technical requirements of MARCEL LIVET top-of-the-range skis. The wood grain must be as regular and homogenous as possible, in order to meet the constraints of resistance and deformation. These are the rarest and most coveted portions. It sometimes takes several tree sections to select the boards that will make the best skis.
As with any great blueprint where only the best components are used, we select only the best materials for our skis. Our ski core manufacturing practices ensure sustainable forest management and is FSC certified. The selection of wood is conducted in accordance to their degree of drying.
Depending on the wood type, our wooden veneers come either from French forests or from exotic wood forests.
As with our skis, we are keen to showcase local know-how. To do this, we do not hesitate to surround ourselves with craftsmen who are specialists in their field. Our leather straps for our aluminium poles are made by the Grand Bornand saddler
